JOB SUMMARY: In collaboration with the Medical Directors and System Coordinator provides leadership and accountability to the Comprehensive Stroke Program. This NP serves the hospital based program as a liaison among neurosciences, emergency services, nursing, and ancillary departments in the comprehensive stroke program to facilitate the management of stroke patients. The NP delivers evidenced based stroke care assessment and management across the continuum of care. The advanced practice nurse participates in research, education, and ensuring patient care is consistent with regulatory requirements. This NP reports directly to the System Program Coordinator. This NP works with platform stroke program leaders to maintain Joint Commission Certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and adherence of the quality metrics set forth by the American Heart Association Get with the Guidelines Program and American Stroke Association, Stroke Guidelines. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Must obtain and maintain BLS Demonstrates computer literacy, accurate and timely charting via Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Strong analytical, investigative skills, program/protocol development and implementation preferred. Demonstrates ability to complete responsibilities effectively and accurately. Demonstrates leadership qualities and expertise in stroke care or ability to work in complex programs. Demonstrates the ability to deal directly with patients and their families. The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position.
