The RN responsibilities include participating in the daily operations in the Electrophysiology Laboratory including assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care as well as performing circulating functions during procedures. The RN administers conscious sedation, scrubs for ablations, surgical implantation and extraction of devices, evaluates pacemakers and defibrillators during procedures, and coordinates support services for cases. The RN also composes and implements policy and procedures, performs auditing and handles reporting monthly QA.
The RN uses critical care skills and knowledge to ensure the safe delivery of patient care with a high level of decision-making autonomy.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
Works under the supervision of a physician in clinical matters and the Operations Manager, Invasive Cardiac Suite for non-clinical matters. Reports directly to Lead Electrophysiology tech for both clinical and non-clinical matters.
SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
The EP Nurse is responsible for the general nursing activities in the EP and for providing quality patient care. Using the nursing process, the RN collaborates with the patient, patient's family member(s)/significant others, professional peers and other members of the health care team to individualize patient care. Directs nursing support staff in the provision of patient care according to the standards of nursing practice, administrative and departmental policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Pennsylvania required.
For Registered Nurses that are newly hired externally or promoted into this Geisinger RN position by August 1, 2015, BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 6 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required.
For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred.
Minimum one year experience in an active electrophysiology laboratory that performs current procedures OR minimum one year experience in cardiac catheterization OR minimum two years cardiac nursing experience required.
IBHRE certified EP Specialist or RCES (Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist) status required following 2 years of employment in EP Lab, within 2 testing cycles.
BLS and ACLS required. PALS certification required to be completed within 2 months of hire

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Must be able to wear lead x-ray protection apparel.
