In support of Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and values, the Procurement Surgeon is professional, determined, and compassionate. Under the direction of the Chief Clinical Officer, and ultimately the Chief Executive Officer, the Procurement Surgeon is a licensed physician with experience in organ donation, surgical organ recovery, and organ transplantation, and surgically recovers deceased donor organs for transplantation and research.
Perform surgical organ recovery to local and national standards for organ transplantation.
Assist the Chief Clinical Officer to develop and modify organ recovery protocols designed to maximize the number of donors and number of organs transplanted.
Educate Gift of Life Michigan staff about different aspects of surgical organ recovery and preservation techniques.
Arbitrate organ and tissue recovery team related issues when needed.
Actively participate in the proceedings of the Gift of Life Michigan organ committee and advisory board.
Maintain knowledge level of current practices of organ procurement.
Support Gift of Life Michigan's Code of Conduct, core purpose, and core values of being professional, determined, and compassionate.
Avail him/herself a minimum of 20 on-call days each month.
The incumbent must be a physician licensed in the state of Michigan, doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy, have at least three years’ experience as a surgeon performing organ procurement or organ transplant operations in the United States, with experience in deceased organ donor management, both brain dead and Donation after Circulatory Death.
