JOB OVERVIEW The Project Manager, Vascular Surgery Clinical Research primary responsibility is to manage the activities of the UCSF Diabetic Foot Clinical Research Unit (CRU), a U01 grant funded program from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) / National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The CRU at UCSF is part of a national Diabetic Foot Consortium (DFC) whose goal is to validate biomarkers for diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) through a network of clinical and biomarker measurement sites. This four year program will focus on the establishment of the Diabetic Foot CRU at UCSF and Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG), one of the five to six centers across the country that will be a part of the consortium. The individual will be the Project Manager for the UCSF Diabetic Foot CRU, assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in the daily management and operations of this program and all future proposed clinical trials. The individual will administer all finance, human resources, facilities, and other operational activities for this research program. S/he will assist the PI with any progress reports to NIDDK, and will be the primary source for fiscal matters related to the grant. S/he will act as the main point of contact for the other key personnel and provide guidance as necessary. One major area that the individual will serve will be in the recruitment and retention efforts by the consortium, working in close conjunction with the clinical research coordinator (CRC) and other study personnel. S/he will execute communication, marketing, and outreach efforts (e.g. mailings, advertisements, website maintenance, community programs, etc.) regarding the Diabetic Foot CRU program, including in the recruitment efforts of research subjects. The Project Manager will administer the major research program components, and the research program’s operational requirements. The individual will also coordinate meetings and conference calls among all of the investigators for this grant, and will prepare and distribute study material in preparation for all conference calls and meetings. S/he will work under the direction of the PI to establish the research program’s agenda, obtain additional funding, and achieve objective goals. The Project Manager will also spend a smaller portion of time in supporting the Division and Chief to assist with other research projects in research management, utilizing the skills and full understanding of research practices and organization/policies/procedures to apply federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and guidelines, to promote best practices at UCSF. S/he will interact frequently with investigators and persons in other organizational departments, and occasionally persons outside the University. Interactions require the use of tact and independent judgment, knowledge of standards and best practices, and counseling to resolve a wide range of research compliance issues, in regards to contracts and grants, Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies, and federal regulatory policies. Responsibilities will include providing analytical, financial, and training activities in support of contract and grant proposal development, grant-writing, funding, administration, clinical trial agreement execution and amendments, and budget development. Activities may include pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and close-out activities for federal, state, local, and private sponsors. S/he will assist PIs with the following: coordinating and identifying of the budgets and contracts for its clinical trial portfolio, and assisting investigators with any pre- or post-award activities related to other grants or clinical research projects. SURGERY The mission of the UCSF Department of Surgery is threefold: to develop the next generation of leaders in surgery; to provide outstanding quality clinical care that is cost effective, yet compassionate; and to make significant advances in scientific knowledge and clinical practice through basic and clinical research. Care of patients is what attracted our faculty and residents to surgery, and it continues to be our main focus. The Department is comprised of seven divisions including Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Transplant Surgery, and Vascular & Endovascular Surgery. Our surgeons provide care at locations throughout greater San Francisco including: UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus (Moffitt-Long Hospital), UCSF Medical Center at Mt. Zion, UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay (UCSF Bakar Cancer Hospital and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco), Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC), and Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland. DIVISION OF VASCULAR AND ENDOVASCULAR SURGERY Our surgeons and staff provide compassionate, state-of-the-art care for patients across the full range of vascular disorders in multiple locations around San Francisco and the Bay Area. Our program is closely integrated with several specialized centers including the UCSF Heart & Vascular Center (HVC), which is a multidisciplinary team of vascular surgeons and cardiovascular specialists. As one of the leading academic divisions in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery across the country, we have one of the oldest fellowship programs in the country. It is the only campus in the 10-campus UC system dedicated exclusively to the health sciences. * BA or BS degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training * Good Clinical Practice (GCP) * Human Subjects Protection Training (i.e. CITI Training) * Four years of experience working in the Health care setting with at least one year of project management experience working with clinical trials, coverage analysis, budget preparation, contract negotiations, and billing reconciliation. Possess working knowledge of industry side of clinical research. Solid understanding of clinical trials policies, procedures, and regulatory issues * Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices * Basic computer skills, including knowledge and experience in MS Access, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word. Facility with web content management systems, web-based survey creation, and other common web tools * Excellent verbal, written, editing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Active listening skills. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with faculty, staff at all levels, and non-university personnel. Proactive in communicating with many people at various levels of academic and industry environments, and keeping open those lines of communication. Demonstrated ability to craft sophisticated written communication pieces regarding sensitive correspondence.
