JOB TITLE: Surgical Technologist LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital DEPARTMENT: Operating Rooms WORK SCHEDULE: Rotation WORK TYPE: Full Time
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person's physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, with respect for the beliefs and values of co-workers, patients and their families. Functions in the spirit of teamwork and is accountable for the delivery of care utilizing those skills learned in both the clinical and didactic arena. Assists surgeon with procedures related to the care of patient of all ages during surgical intervention.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Accountable to the Registered Nurse and the Pod coordinator.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrates willingness to work in a team environment.
Demonstrates leadership abilities.
Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in workload, staffing and scheduling.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Graduate of from an accredited school of Surgical Technology required. Knowledge and technical skills to operate, set up and maintain equipment in the care unit required.
Minimum three years previous operating experience preferred.
BLS certification preferred. Required within 60 days of employment
Minimum three months of on-the-job experience to become familiar with all job duties required.
Basic computer skills required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Extensive periods of standing and walking are involved.

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER: (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
